Chad Lauga was born and raised in St. Bernard Parish. He graduated Chalmette High School in 1992. After graduation, Chad went on to complete a 5 year electrical apprenticeship. Chad has worked for over 30 years as an electrician repairing ships on the river. He coached St. Bernard youth basketball leading his team to a national championship in 1999.

After Katrina, he took a job as an advocate for working families with the IBEW Local 130. Chad knows how hard it is to make a living on an hourly wage, so for nearly a decade he served as a tireless advocate to create Louisiana jobs.

Chad has fought to protect Louisiana jobs by helping to pass legislation that makes sure companies with state contracts use the national verification system to ensure the workers they hire are in this country legally.

Chad Lauga is fighting to put Louisiana first.

Issues

  • I understand that insurance rates are too high. We pay way too much and get too little for it. While out of state corporations make loads of money off of the back of our hard working families.

  • I understand that Louisiana needs more quality jobs.

  • I understand that our children deserve to have the best schools and safe neighborhoods to live in.

  • I understand that if we do not start rebuilding our coast soon, District 3 will be one of the first districts lost.

Insurance

  • Prioritize channel realignment

  • Audit BP fund spending

  • Increase dredging

  • Monitor sinking land

  • Address climate change

Flood Mitigation

I am the only candidate in Senate District 3 that has a plan to lower insurance costs in my first year in Baton Rouge.

  1. Fully fund the Fortified Roof Program. We need to get insurance companies to put skin in the game. And, the legislature cannot mandate fortified roofs. The State needs to HELP people fortify their roof.

  2. Permanently remove the provision that Citizens Insurance must be 10% higher than the highest insurance premium available. This gives insurance companies an unfair competitive advantage.

  3. Restore our coast putting more land between the levees and the Gulf. This will reduce storm surge ensuring that our levees perform as designed.
